What is blanco tequila?

Blanco is unaged tequila. The agave is first harvested and the piña, or core, is removed and baked until its sugars are released. The piñas are then shredded or crushed and the resulting liquid is fermented in stainless steel or wooden vats with yeast. Once it has transformed into alcohol, the final product is distilled and rested for 14-21 days, though it is typically the former.  Clear in color, it is typically bottled directly following its distillation, preserving its purity.

What does blanco tequila taste like?

Though unaged, tequila blanco retains an array of flavors from the fermentation process the crushed agave undergoes. Since it is not aged in oak, it doesn’t possess as intense a flavor profile as other aged tequilas such as Anejo or Extra Anejo. It typically includes flavors of sweet agave and vanilla along with floral and fruity notes.

How many calories does blanco tequila have?

Tequila Blanco can be considered a bit healthier than other alcoholic beverages. Typically low in sugar, pure agave blanco tequila usually only contains 65-70 calories per fluid ounce. Additionally, it has no carbohydrates!

Is blanco tequila 100% agave?

Blanco tequila is made from Blue Weber Agave sourced from Jalisco, Mexico. In order to be considered true Premium tequila, it must be made from the agave sourced from this region.

How to enjoy drinking blanco tequila?

Blanco Tequila can be enjoyed by itself, especially those that may be aged for up to the 21 day maximum after their distillation and/or those which are crafted alongside the essence of herbs, spices, or roasted fruits and vegetables. A shot is typically consumed with salt and lime as chasers. Blanco is also one of the best choices for mixing into cocktails due to its purity and clarity. This tequila goes well with an array of dishes, including grilled seafood, roasted vegetables, or any dish rich with citrus flavor.

What are some popular blanco tequila to drink?

Some of the most popular blanco tequila includes blanco from popular tequila-makers such as Don Julio, Espolón, and Casa amigos. Don Julio Blanco Tequila is known for its lemon, lime and grapefruit citrus zest and clean and dry finish. Espolón Blanco is known for its Bright citrus and sweet agave notes alongside hints of pepper, grilled fruits, and vanilla. Casamigos Blanco is known for its delicate and inesse citrus and agave aroma and palate, and is also known for winning double gold at the 2014 San Francisco Spirits Awards Competition.
