    • Amon-Ra by Ben Glaetzer is bold, rich and finely balanced Shiraz crafted to exemplify his wine-making passion and complexity. This 2017 Shiraz is inspired by the king of all gods in Egyptian Mythology, Amon Ra, and the temple dedicated to him which is said to have planted the first ever monoculture vineyard. The label features the wedjat or “all-seeing eye of Horus,” a symbol of protection and the six Egyptian defined senses of touch, taste, hearing, sight, smell and thought. Seeking to appeal to each of these senses Ben Glaetzer created this multilayered masterpiece. On the nose, this deep purple wine offers aromas of ripe blackberries, sweet plums, and cherry cola with hints of violet, licorice and pepper as it develops. Intense yet elegant, the palate is full-bodied and velvety with notes of raspberry, blackberry, florals, mint, oak, and baking spices. The finish is long and tannin-filled, with persisting touches of smoke, blueberry and spicy oak. For pairing, the team at CWS suggests braised lamb chops or a pan-seared filet mignon.
