Wild Turkey Distillery now is stewarded by Master Distiller Jimmy Russell and his son Eddie Russell. (They have over 90 years of experience producing bourbon) When Jimmy was growing up in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky there were four bourbon distilleries, and the families used to tend and work at them. This bottling of Wild Turkey has been aged for at least 6 years before coming out of the barrel at 109 proof, it is only diluted slightly before bottling at 101 proof. Wild Turkey 101 is an award-winning bourbon that earned a score of 92 points from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge and a Gold Medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition.
Wild Turkey 101 is the iconic standard label for Wild Turkey Bourbon. Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon ages back to after the American Civil War. The Ripy brothers were the founders of Wild Turkey Bourbon. After the American Civil War, the Ripy Brothers returned to Kentucky and opened a distillery in Lawrenceburg. The distillery operated for nearly fifty years until American Prohibition hit the United States. After the Prohibition, the Ripy Brothers Distillery was reopened and an executive at the distillery named Thomas McCarthy took some samples of maturing whiskey with him and a group of friends on a turkey hunt. The next year, his friends asked him to bring more of the “wild turkey whiskey” on their next hunt, and soon after the whiskey got its new name. Under the watchful eye of Master Distiller Jimmy Russell for nearly 55 years, Wild Turkey has long been a stalwart of the bourbon industry known for its rebellious image and in-your-face bourbon flavor. This 50.5% alcohol whiskey is not age stated, though usually, their new standard practice is to mingle barrels of 6, 7, and 8-year bourbon.
