Description

Laverstoke Mill is recorded as far as the 1086 Doomsday Book. The book mentioned that a mill was on the site. Laverstoke Mill was owned by William the Conqueror, Henry VIII, and visited by royality - 4 times. Most recently visited by Queen Elizabeth in 1962. In 1719, Laverstoke Mill acqured the lease and printer Henry Portal began expansion on the mill giving him the ability to expand on beginning to manufacture bank notes for the British Empire in 1724. During the mid-18th century Laverstoke Mill began to see more prosperity manufacturing bank notes during Queen Victoria's long reign. The site went through several renovations and began to see more elegant architecture to increase production. Bombay's Sapphire stepped into the picture in 1761 when Thomas Dakin purchased a site in Warrington, England. He had the vision to distill gin and in 1831 the Dakin family purchased a still, adapted it to separate the exotic botanicals with the intention of distilling the gin. Dakin used an artisanal distillation process known as Vapour Infusion which is still used by Bombay Sapphire today. Bombay Sapphire East Gin is a master of botanicals from the The Far East. Ivano Tonutti has spent countless hours sourcing exotic botanicals to create a distinctively different gin. Thai Lemongrass and Vietnamese Black Peppercorns are used to the classic blend. These ingredients are mixed during the vapor infusion to create a gin that makes them stand out amongst other gin manufacturers. The ingredients collected to make Bombay Sapphire East come from three different continents. Since the 1830s Bombay added two-state-of-the-art 12,000 liter copper pot stills - Henry and Victoria.
